Most people say to choose a career that you enjoy, but doesn’t that make what you love into work? Or does it make work into something you love to do? Clearly most people think they would rather have less money but do something they love. I would rather have more money to spend on my hobbies and entertainment. I don’t live to work, I work to live. Working is something you have to do, so you might as well get the most bang for your buck. When you are picking your future career, I would choose something that pays well and gives me time to enjoy hobbies, not something I enjoy doing but doesn’t give me any financial freedom outside of work.

Everyone always says they want to be a professional athlete or an actor, but wouldn’t that turn something you love into something you just do for money? I would love to believe that my favorite athletes simply play for the love of the game, but that isn’t realistic at all. Athletes will miss weeks of team practices until they get the kind of contract they are looking for. I am fine not being a professional athlete, because then sports I play are still fun, and they don’t turn into work.
