December 29, 2009 | Diane Johnson | 2 Comments A continued and brutal recession makes it tough to find work. Everyone keeps saying that the economy is recovering but it sure doesn't feel like it. Trying to find a job particularly the right job is extremely difficult. But you may want to listen up and find out who the happiest workers are? It doesn't matter if you have a job or if you have a job and hate it. The fact is that you are capable of being one. The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index asked over 100,000 people how happy they were and they found "People who work for themselves are the happiest people." Whether these people had a degree or an advanced degree doesn't matter. Overall they had the greatest chance of fulfillment and happiness. If you work for yourself you determine your hours, what needs to be done, what vacation days you want to take off, and you take full responsibility and ownership over your job. You are your own boss. That's why the happiest workers work for themselves. They have control over their life and actions. If this sounds appealing then listen up. Start looking at your skills and then figure out how you can use those to your benefit. Entrepreneurs are important and they make America what it is. So take the risk and make it happen for yourself. During a recession there is less to lose especially if you're unemployed. Many companies aren't hiring right now and many you don't want to work for, so start sharpening up your skills and become your own boss.
