January 25, 2010 | Adam Sorensen | Leave a comment South University is a proprietary school that was started in Savannah, Georgia in 1899. Since it's inception, it has opened campuses across the southern United States in states like South Carolina, Mississippi and Florida. South University is accredited by the Southern Association of Classes and Schools, the same accreditation agency that accredits all schools in the southern states, including Texas, Mississippi, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. It received Level 5 Accreditation in 1985 as they now offer masters and doctorate degrees. South is just one of several "hybrid" universities that offer classes both online and on campus. The largest university of this type is the University of Phoenix, but there are dozens more. It's important to learn whether the institution is accredited, where the campuses are located and how much the tuition costs in order to make sure that you are getting the best possible education at the best possible price. Getting a degree at South University may not be the best idea for people who live outside of the Southern United States. Having the ability to get to a physical campus can be a large boon to students taking classes online. Choosing a degree is a hard procedure, and the average college student changes degrees five times before graduation.
