SALT LAKE CITY As the availability of the Internet increases to a wider market, many people are either finishing or starting graduate degrees, according to a report from Ambient Insight.

The report also said that the amount of students taking classes online should triple before the year 2015.

Online education has become an increasingly popular option in the busy lives of adult learners, with over 1.5 million individuals enrolled across the U.S.

Western Governors University, the first competency-based, fully accredited online university, was formed over ten years ago and is starting to see the tipping point of online education.

WGU was formed by 19 U.S. governors in an effort to expand the reach of a world-class education and create new opportunities in some of the fastest-growing industries in the country, including business, education, information technology and health care.

WGU has received many accolades since their foundation. They have been awarded with the 21st Century Award for Best Practices in Distance Learning by the United States Distance Learning Association and numerous WGU programs have been designated as a Best Buy by GetEducated.com.

The WGU Teachers College has been the only online teacher education school to earn accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

But to over 18,000 WGU students, WGU is more than accreditations or awards. It represents the ability to get a rewarding education in a way that fits their busy lifestyle.

As online schools and universities like WGU continue to expand the potential impact of a quality education, the freedom to accomplish new goals and take advantage of new opportunity will grow with it.
