Now that you have a plan in place to further your college education you may be wondering if your wallet can even survive the demands of finances that college can bring.  This can be a scary and stressful thought at the same time, but please don’t let this discourage you.  Believe it or not there is a glimmer of hope.  There is such a thing as scholarships for moms.  Whether you are a single mom, married mom, stay-at-home mom, etc., there is funding available to moms in need of financial aid.

Mommy Goes To College Scholarship

According to Hilary Post at Ehow, “This scholarship is available to moms wishing to return to school.  To qualify for this particular scholarship applicants must have a net income of less than $100,000 and must have at least one dependent minor child.  Mothers are to write an essay on any challenges they have faced since returning to school as a mother.  The amount awarded is $1000 per academic year.  For more information on this particular scholarship call 303-975-6857.”

Women Scholarship Funds

The Jeanette Rankin Women’s Scholarship is for applicants 35 years or older and have minor children.  Applicants must show proof of financial hardship in order to qualify for this particular scholarship.  Moms must write an essay talking about their struggles as a mom returning to school along with their ultimate college and career goals.  The amount awarded varies between $500 to $4000 per academic year.  For more information on this scholarship go to the Rankin Foundation or call 706-208-1211.

The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation is for mothers 17 years and older living in the United States.  In the year 2011, this foundation will offer up to $2000 to low income women and children for those who want to continue their education.  The application will be available to download in April 2011.  For more information and criteria regarding this women’s scholarship you can visit Patsy Mink Foundation or call 808-941-1098.

Single Parent Scholarships

Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship is available for qualified single moms attending an accredited Arkansas University or college.  This scholarship award amount is between $1000-$3000 per academic year.  Single parents must have one minor child and be of low income status.  If you are interested in more information visit aspsf.org or call 479- 927-1402.

Hopefully for now, the pessimistic cloud that has so inconveniently hovered over your head has now turned into an optimistic ray of hope and light.  If anything, as a mom that had returned to school facing this type of situation, I learned that there is an abundance of resources and options so that you don’t have to go this route alone.
