Those who receive the scholarship are also given an additional financial aid package to give away to someone else. The program will award ten recipients full-tuition scholarships for an online associate's degree program. Additionally, the institution is rewarding the remaining five finalists with a $5,000 scholarship. College officials say that recipients can award their second scholarship to a friend, family member or even a community organization, which may then grant it to a deserving individual. "We want to recognize people who are helping others, but may not take the time to help themselves," said Scott Traylor, associate campus director for online education at the college. "This program gives people the chance to improve their own life, as well as someone else's through education, without having to worry about the cost." Prospective students need to fill out a form and submit an essay between 200 and 300 words describing why they deserve the award before December 31, 2010.
