Officials said that sports is the sixth-largest industry in the U.S., and accumulates more than $250 billion per year. As a result, many employers are seeking well-trained professional managers who have obtained a sports management degree. They added that the industry encompasses a variety of professions such as player, official, athletic director, trainer, fitness instructor, professional manager, facilities manager, sporting goods manufacturer, club manager and sports card retailer. The online aspect of the degree helps adult learners because it allows them to remain employed throughout their education. Officials noted that students can transfer credits into the program and switch their business curriculum from another disciplines or supplement a technical degree or background with a bachelor’s degree in business. According to a recent a Babson-Sloan report, more than one in four students are enrolled in at least one online course. Furthermore, most colleges and universities believe that web-based classes and programs are essential for their long-term success.
