If you are a mom, most likely you have faced the inevitable.  You can’t help but tap into the technological word, computer technology to be exact.  I see and hear of moms all over the place becoming more and more knowledgeable of the computer world.  Some even starting their own online businesses in web design, etc.  I know that at one point I considered even getting into web design but it’s just too far fetched for me at this time.  Maybe one day in the future.

Computer Technology falls into many categories including:

  • Administrators
  • Programmers
  • Analysts
  • Technicians

What do computer technology administrators do? They manage and run a network, the equipment, and staff to support it.  They can be network administrators or even manage a database”. ~Chad Hunter

What do computer technology programmers do?Programmers are made up of IT professionals who write in code and provide a computerized service to a computer or computer system.” ~Chad Hunter

What do computer technology analysts do?Analysts typically hold contract positions.  They look at a current computer system or situation in which one could be used and write reports based off of their assessments.”~Chad Hunter

What do computer technicians do? They respond to on-site technical problems and repair hardware and software problems.

If you are considering any of these titles you may be curious as to what online schools offer the best programs possible?  Here is a brief list of online schools in computer technology:

I thought it would be fun to compile a list of  ten women/moms into computer technology.  I found this off of a blog on worldwideclassicnews.com.

Women/Moms into Computer Technology

  1. Mena Trott-Invented TypePad and Moveable Type with her husband.
  2. Hedy Lamarr-“Laid the foundations for wireless ethernet, mobile broadband, and synthesized music markets.”
  3. Danielle Bunton Berry-One of the world’s greatest computer game designers.
  4. Mitchell Baker-Served as the “legal head” of Mozilla Foundation.
  5. Barbara Liskov-First woman in the United States to get a PhD in Computer Science.
  6. Sophie Wilson-Sophie Wilson and Associates bettered the smart-phone world. (ARM Chip) Low-power processor.
  7. Mary Lou Jepson- Impressive career in IT. PhD work in Optics.

  9. Ada Lovelace-World’s first computer programmer
  10. Grace Hopper-Invented the Compiler-“A computer program that transforms source code written in programming language into another computer language.”

I was very impressed with this list.  I never even considered that some of these top inventions were invented or directed by women.  It definitely motivates me as a mom/woman to not be so intimated by the technological world that we live in.  If you have an itch, go for it!  You may be the next one to come up with something ingenious for the computer world that we live in, then your name could be added to this list.  How cool would that be?

If you are a mom currently in school pursuing a degree in computer technology, currently possess a degree, or even have an invention up your sleeve, please feel free to share it with us.
