1. California = 367 colleges
2. New York = 285 colleges
3. Texas = 212 colleges
4. Pennsylvania = 190 colleges

The number of colleges per U.S. region is as follows:
Northeast = 865 colleges
South = 1481 colleges
Midwest = 1020 colleges
West = 718 colleges
